Good Bye, Ruby Tuesday

When it comes to certain brands, I’m usually loyal to a fault. I’ve chewed Extra gum since I was a kid. While I might change flavors every now and then, it’s always Extra. My laundry detergent is Gain. I brush my teeth with Colgate. I’ve only ever owned a Toyota. I’ve used Lady Speedstick Shower Fresh deodorant since college when I got a free sample. I only buy Coke products for the house or on the road (but I’ll drink diet Pepsi at a restaurant that doesn’t serve my brand of choice). I could go on and on, but you probably get the point. “I’ll Market When I Get More Customers”

As today’s businesses bob up and down in a sea of economic chaos, most base success on how long they can keep their head above water. Understandably, owners and employees alike are startled by the approaching waves. But, the “stop swimming and float it out” approach seems risky at best.

Each day, Bon’s Eye meets with business owners. Troubled by slumping sales, many tell us they’ve been forced to make some tough budget decisions. Usually, marketing represents one of the first expenses on the chopping block.

We often hear “I’ll market when I get more customers.” We can discuss for weeks the catch-22 logic behind such a mindset. However, it seems more beneficial to explore why a number of owners adopt this ideology when feeling the crunch. Read more…

Bon’s Eye Marketing Wins Design Award

Yippee!! We won! Oh, my goodness … we won?! Let’s see, we’d like to thank: Quark design software. The U.S Postal Service for getting our entry delivered on time, especially since we waited until the day before the postmark deadline.

Seriously, though, we’re very proud to announce that Bon’s Eye received a 2008-2009 BOOM! Award in the promotional design/advertising category for ViViD. The design competition is organized by the Charlotte and Raleigh chapters of AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts). We were one of 96 award winners out of more than 500 entries.

ViViD is a product for our client, Spectrum Art & Jewelry. Through Bon’s Eye Marketing’s pitches and press releases, the business and its owner, Star Sosa, appeared in Southern Living magazine and most of the area’s publications. When you’ve saturated the local market through print and broadcast, what do you do next? Bon’s Eye’s answer: Become the media and create your own publication. Over the course of several issues, ViViD tripled its circulation, spurred national attention and drew a new audience to Spectrum Art & Jewelry.

On April 4, we’ll head to the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte to attend the BOOM! Gala. ViViD not only will be included in a book given to all award winners but it also will be a part of a summer exhibition that will travel to Charlotte and Raleigh.
